According to the latest piece of , Malta ranked 4th as one of the most cat-loving, and cat-populated countries in Europe.
In this recent study, Malta particularly stands out with 316.46 cats per km² in our land size of 316 km² and 542,000 residents. In fact, 25.4% of Maltese households own at least one cat.
Well, if you’ve ever wandered through the charming University of Malta Msida campus, you might also have noticed a number of furry felines lounging in the sun, curiously exploring corners or basking in their royal status.
We’d like to think that our campus is a feline paradise, and it’s not just the Mediterranean climate that makes us purr-worthy!
Cats have been a part of campus life for decades. We share our space with our friendly feline residents, blending our love for education with a love for our four-legged friends. It’s like they’ve been part of the UM family for as long as we can remember.
Our community members are some of the most cat-loving people around – we have often seen students, staff and academics enjoying some downtime in the company of a feline friend.
And we have also authored or been tagged in quite a few posts featuring UM cats – they are practically social media stars in the making.
With their photogenic poses and love for attention, it’s no surprise that our campus cats often make their way onto social media, with students sharing their latest feline sightings.
