The Department of Media and Communications recently had the pleasure of welcoming a group of students and academics from Principia College, Illinois, to talk about Maltese culture, politics and journalism.
The group were trailing Caravaggio鈥檚 steps through Italy to Malta on a study abroad programme led by Ms Jenna Fisher and Dr Sara Borja with the support of Nicole Gervais.
The theme of the trip was storytelling through art and journalism. In exploring the ways in which stories are told through writing and photography but also through painting, sculpture and architecture, the students were tasked with finding and producing feature articles and photo essays.
During their visit to the University of Malta, the group met Prof. 臓or摹 Mallia (Head of the Department of Media and Communications) and (a research support officer within the Department) to learn more about Malta鈥檚 media environment, the life and work of investigative journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, and Malta in general.
Several of the students returned to the campus for follow-up interviews and research during their stay.
In a fitting tribute to their visit, the group took a photo in front of the in memory of Daphne Caruana Galizia, a site where art, journalism and student activism meet.
