The Europe Biobank Week (EBW) Congress, jointly organised between BBMRI-ERIC (the European Research Infrastructure for Biobanking and Biomolecular Resources in Health and Life Science) and ESBB (the European, African and Middle Eastern Society for Biopreservation and Biobanking) was recently held in Bologna, Italy.
DwarnaBio - the national biobank hosted by the Centre for Molecular Medicine and Biobanking at the University of Malta, was represented by Prof. Nikolai P. Pace of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery. Prof. Pace is the principal investigator for DwarnaBio, and is the national node representative on BBMRI-ERIC. The aim of BBMRI-ERIC is to establish, operate and develop a pan-European distributed research infrastructure of Biobanks and Biomolecular resources to support high-quality biomolecular and medical research.
At EBW 2025 congress, Prof. Pace presented findings from ongoing genomics research from the DwarnaBio biobank and co-chaired sessions on biobank sustainability.
DwarnaBio is establishing a representative population and clinical/rare disease collections with consent for genomic research and longitudinal follow-up. For further information, or to register your interest to participate and donate a sample, visit our .
