This was followed by his taking up an invitation to speak at a conference, at the University of Nottingham, where he is Honorary Professor, on adult community education in honour of Prof. John Holford on his retirement. The conference was entitled Rethinking Radical Approaches to Community Education. Leadership and Lifelong Learning, convened by Prof. Sharon Clancy.
He was assigned the task of commenting critically on the main points covered during the day's work. He took up the invitation both as Honorary Professor and UNESCO Chair in Global Adult Education.
This week Prof. Peter Mayo, as UNESCO Chair and internationally acknowledged authority on Critical Pedagogy, Antonio Gramsci and Don Lorenzo Milani, was Visiting Professor once again this year, at the Universit脿 di Napoli Federico II. He delivered lectures on Critical Pedagogy, Don Milani and Gramsci's Southern Question and the relevance of Gramsci's formulation of every relationship of Hegemony being pedagogical to the concept of a 'learning society'.
He was also Visiting Professor at another Naples institution, the Naples branch of the Centro di Ricerca Nazionale where he spoke about the work carried out and goals achieved during the first cycle of the UNESCO Chair he holds and which draws to a close in December.
He is also engaged with the latter organisation in preparations for a bilateral Malta-Italy (Naples) project of Museum and Heritage education in adult community education.
