As part of the
MIRACLE – ‘coMics and IllustRations Augmented to tackle
Climate change in primary Education’ project, in which the Department of Media and Communications is a partner, a resource for teachers has been created that can be a very useful add-on to their knowledge base.
In fact, if you are a teacher or a teacher-to-be, you probably believe more than anyone that learning goes beyond the classroom. You are also probably keenly aware of the challenges we as a (global) community face in terms of climate change – and the challenges you may face in teaching students, particularly young ones, about it in a meaningful and impactful way. Or perhaps you are simply curious about the possibilities that creative thinking and digital technology can bring to education.
MIRACLE is an Erasmus+ project which brings together partners from Malta, Ireland, Greece, Spain, Croatia and Portugal working to help teachers empower their students through climate change consciousness, whole-class co-creation and eco-optimism in school and out of it. And all of this through the use of comics that have been enhanced for interaction.
MIRACLE has developed a MOOC (massive open online course) to this end. It consists of four interactive modules that delve into the following: climate science fundamentals and sustainable teaching, comic creation, digital augmentation, and disinformation.
Teachers across Europe have free access to ready-to-use lesson plans, videos and further reading. The material is designed for primary education but can be easily adapted for different ages.
If you would like to be enrolled in the pilot phase of this MOOC, please write to Megan Mallia , RSO within the , with your name and email address.
