Dr Claudine Borg, Head of the Department of Translation, Terminology and Interpreting Studies within the Faculty of Arts, has been re-elected to the Executive Board of the (EST) for the 2025-2028 term.
Founded in Vienna in 1992, EST is an international network of around 700 translation and interpreting scholars from across the globe. It serves as a research network, a forum for scholarly exchange, and a hub for academic resources. The Society also organises a major congress in Translation and Interpreting Studies every three years.
The new Executive Board was elected by EST members during the Society’s General Meeting, held as part of the 11th EST Congress hosted by the University of Leeds between 30 June and 3 July 2025. In addition to serving on the board, Dr Borg will take on the role of advisory editor for the EST Newsletter. During her previous term, she was the lead editor of the Newsletter and was instrumental in its development into an ISSN-recognised publication.
The is a key triennial event in the field of Translation and Interpreting Studies. This year’s congress, themed ‘The Changing Faces of Translation and Interpreting Studies’, attracted more than 730 scholars and researchers. Dr Borg co-convened the panel ‘The Changing Face of Literary Translation (Studies)’ with Dr Waltraud Kolb (University of Vienna), served as the invited chair of a general panel on literary translation, and presented a paper titled ‘The Practisearcher's Lens: Exploring the Application of Autoethnography in Literary Translation Studies’ in a panel dedicated to the dialogue between academia and the literary translation profession.
