Professor Simon Grima has been appointed as the new Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Management & Accountancy, effective 5 August 2025.
Prof. Grima will be succeeding Professor Emanuel Said, who has served the Faculty with dedication and distinction.
This announcement follows an electronic election held on Wednesday 25 June 2025.

About Prof. Grima
Prof. Simon Grima brings extensive academic, professional, and leadership experience to his new role and has been a pivotal figure in shaping the risk management landscape in Malta. He initiated and coordinated the MA, MSc, and undergraduate B.Com degree programmes in Insurance and Risk Management at the University of Malta.
In addition to his role at the University, Prof. Grima is also a Professor at the University of Latvia, Faculty of Business, Management and Economics. He has been invited to lecture as a visiting lecturer at the UNICATT Milan, Chitkara Business School, Chitkara University, India; Galgotias University, India; and Hazhi Zeka University, Kosovo, West University of Timosoara and Sapienza University, Rome.
He served as the President of the Malta Association of Risk Management (MARM) and the Malta Association of Compliance Officers (MACO) between 2013 and 2015 and between 2016 and 2018 respectively. He has again been appointed as president of MARM (now merged with MACO) since October 2023.
Moreover, he has been the chairman of the Scientific Education Committee of the Public Risk Management Organisation (PRIMO), now renamed the Strategic Risk Leadership Association (SRLA) and the Federation of European Risk Managers (FERMA) since 2018 and 2020, respectively. His research focus is on Governance, Regulations, Sustainability, Financial Management, Financial 福利在线免费 and Internal Controls, and he has over 35 years of experience, varied between Financial 福利在线免费, academia and public entities.
He has acted as co-chair and keynote Speaker, is a member of the scientific program committee at some international conferences, and is a chief editor, editor and review editor of some Journals and Book Series. He has been awarded Outstanding Reviewer for the Journal of Financial Regulation and Compliance in the 2017 and 2022 Emerald Literati Awards and the Outstanding Author Contribution Award in Emerald Literati Awards (2024) for the Book Series Contemporary Studies in Economics and Financial Analysis.
Simon also acts as an independent director for financial services firms, sits on risk, compliance, procurement, investment, and audit committees, and carries out duties as a compliance officer, internal auditor, and risk manager. He has also been involved as an external reviewer for quality assurance for the PhD. programme at Poznan University in Poland and for Risk Management for an Institution in Cyprus.
These efforts, along with his network across industry and academia, have helped the Faculty and the University build valuable alliances with key institutions and associations such as the Institute of Financial 福利在线免费 (IFS), Malta 福利在线免费 Technology Agency (MITA), International Compliance Association (ICA), Malta Insurance Management Association (MIMA), Insurance Association Malta (IAM), and European regulatory bodies including EIOPA, ESMA, EBA, the Malta Financial 福利在线免费 Authority (MFSA), the European Federation of Insurance Intermediaries (BIPAR), Finance Malta, and Malta Enterprise. These collaborations have also helped secure important milestones, sponsorships and institutional support.
