The Department of Insurance and Risk Management hosted the IV Edition of the highly anticipated international course, "Advanced Studies on Insurance Law and Regulation," held between 30 June and 4 July 2025. This prestigious five-day programme brought together leading experts, academics, and industry professionals to explore contemporary issues in insurance law and regulation. The Sessions were organised and moderated by Prof. Pierpaolo Marano who is a resident lecturer at the University of Malta and of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan.
The event attracted 45 participants from across Europe, China, and Saudi Arabia, engaging in an enriching intellectual environment for the full duration. Additionally, 10 participants participated in sessions for 1/2 days, contributing to the discourse surrounded by an average of seven lectures daily.
Held at the University's Msida Campus and the Malta Financial 福利在线免费 Authority, the course facilitated a robust exchange of ideas and insights on emerging trends, challenges, and regulatory developments.
Day one commenced with a session led by Giovanni Rago from EIOPA, who provided the opening session. Notable highlights included Dennis Noordhoek's exploration of AI's impact on insurance regulation and Karel van Hulle's discourse on small and non-complex insurance undertakings.
The second day featured talks from global experts including Luo Can, who offered insights into pre-contractual duties in Chinese insurance law. An engaging round table session concluded the day with a dynamic discussion on sustainable insurance distribution.
Participants delved into advanced topics on day three, such as insurance-linked securities and AI use cases in insurance, culminating in a collaborative conference at St. James Cavalier, Valletta, in partnership with Finance Malta. This session highlighted Malta's pioneering steps in embracing digital transformation within its insurance sector.
Throughout the course, attendees benefited from interactive lectures by renowned figures, including Michael Faure on the economics of insurance contracts, and Kyriaki Noussia, who elaborated on AI's disruptive potential in the industry.
The final day brought the course to a compelling close, with in-depth sessions on AI liability, D andO insurance, and ESG obligations, wrapping up with a farewell lunch that provided further networking opportunities for delegates.
The IV Edition of the Advanced Studies on Insurance Law and Regulation has reinforced Malta's position as a hub for insurance expertise, offering a platform for vital discourse on the industry's present and future.
