Nearly 300 mentors participated in a series of seminars, at Valletta Campus, organised by the Department of Nursing over the last few weeks.
Led by nurse academics from the Department of Nursing, Dr Trevor Abela Fiorentino and Ms Adrienne Grech, and Ms Jamie Caruana from the Practice Placement Co-ordination Office, the seminars sought to inform and align clinical mentors regarding the approaches to learning and assessment adopted across nurse education programmes at the University of Malta.
Titled 鈥楨nabling high quality clinical education' the series of seminars provided insight specifically into current clinical skills pedagogies at the nursing department, as well as critical reflection and micro-teaching in the clinical environment. Participants had the opportunity to also discuss ideas and challenges related to their role as mentors in small group sessions and therefore enabled vital networking between clinical nurse mentors and nurse academics and served a good evaluation exercise of the mentorship system within the pre-registration nursing programmes.
Update seminars are held on a regular basis, by the Department of Nursing, in view of maintained good collaborative relationships between different stakeholders in nursing education.
