Celebrated annually between 15 and 21 April, World Creativity and Innovation Week is an opportunity to be inspired by new thinking and help foster a culture of creativity.
Every year, the Edward de Bono Institute for Creative Thinking & Innovation hosts various events and activities, targeted at different age groups, to encourage people to use creativity in problem-solving for all issues related to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
- Director of the Institute, Dr Margaret Mangion, featured in one of the latest videos by UM, saying that “some people say you either have it (critical thinking) or you don’t. We like to think you can be trained to become a skills thinker”.
- Prof. Sandra Dingli organised a training workshop as part of the ThinkGame project (Cooperation to implement creative thinking and gamification for innovative online training of STEM students) at the University of Malta’s Msida Campus. Several other members of the Institute were also involved in this project. More info online.
- In a session that was well-received by UM students, Ms Cathy Peric and Ms Denise Perini from IDG Malta shared valuable knowledge about how to nourish Inner Development Goals.
- In a collaboration with , artistic director Sarah Amato and three performers shared their experience with members of the Institute during a lecture on the Psychology of Creativity.
- A calming parent-child session was hosted by the Institute whereby young guests learned more about emotional regulation and how they can influence behaviour. They also learned simple calming strategies.
- The St Ignatius College, Ħandaq Middle School in Qormi – which has now been renamed the St Ignatius College, Prof. Edward de Bono, Tal-Ħandaq Middle School in memory of the late Maltese physician who came up with the term “lateral thinking” and the concept of the “Six Thinking Hats”.
- Prof. Alexiei Dingli delivered a lecture called ‘ChatGPT: From Zero to Hero in 1 Hour’ to a packed audience at the UM Library.
- A Hackathon organised by the UM’s Institute of Earth Systems addressed the pressing needs to conserve water in domestic settings. The event was aimed at students attending Sixth Form. More about it online.
