The Office for Human Resources Management & Development will be offering a Fire Warden Course for all UM members of staff. Training will be delivered by qualified and experienced trainers from . Since this training involves a practical element a limited number of participants will be accepted.
The Fire Warden course provides participants with awareness and understanding of the causes and effects of fire and helps them to identify and reduce the risk that fire presents in the workplace. It also provides an understanding of different types of fire extinguishers and practical training for correct use. Techniques for successful evacuations will be discussed and suggested.

NB: This training will not be held on campus and please note that participants are expected to take care of their own transport to the training venue.
By the end of this training the participants will be:
- list the reasons for fire safety legislation;
- explain the principles of fire science;
- describe how to conduct a risk assessment;
- describe the different methods of evacuation;
- identify and operate fire safety equipment in the workplace;
- describe how fire safety issues should be managed in the workplace.
