Applications are invited for Master’s Students to work in collaboration with the Department of Applied Biomedical Science, Faculty of Health Sciences on the project STEERS - “Understanding the Spatiotemporal Dynamics of Host Tissue Responses during Sepsis and Recovery”. The students will join the supervisory team, which will be composed of the principal investigator Dr Brendon Scicluna, who will act as the main supervisor.
- Applicants must be in possession of an undergraduate degree (Second Class Division or higher) in any field with a strong background in molecular and cell biology. Applicants must have covered the following topics in their undergraduate Degree: Immunology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology.
- The scholarship has a duration of one year. The selected candidates will be required to start the studies on a part-time basis from September 2025, and will be receiving a stipend of EUR 600 per month for one calendar year. The tuition fee for the first year of studies (up to EUR 400) will be covered from the project. Further information on other applicable fees (if applicable) is available online.
- In case of either extension or suspension of studies, the candidates shall not receive a stipend during the extension or suspension of studies period.
- The Scholarship will be subject to the eligibility of the candidates to meet the entry requirements set out by the University of Malta and the conditions for enrolling in the MSc Applied Biomedical (Faculty of Health Sciences) or MSc Physiology and Biochemistry (Faculty of Medicine and Surgery). - International applicants are required to present an internationally recognized English Language proficiency Certificate at the required level. Further details are available online. International applicants are also advised to familiarise themselves with information available on the website of the International Office, particularly to the sections concerning visas and e-residence permit conditions and requirements. International candidates will need to provide assurance that they have the funds available to cover their stay in Malta. The stipend awarded for this scholarship is to be considered as a form of allowance and will not cover all the costs attached to studying and living in Malta.
- The degree has an annual enrolment fee of EUR 400 for local/EU/EEA applicants and total tuition fees of EUR 13,400 for non-EU/non-EEA applicants.

Applications may be sent by e-mail. Applications should be received by not later than 30 June, 2025. International candidates are required to present certified translations of their qualifications into English. Applications for courses to join the UM in October 2025 from non-EU nationals residing outside the EU and needing a visa to study in Malta must be submitted by 1 July.

Note: The scholarship awardee will be required to complete a Master’s by Research application, which is considered separately.
