On 18 June 2026, educators and researchers will have the opportunity to engage in an insightful discussion on the transformative potential of Lesson Study as a collaborative approach to teacher professional learning.

Two alumni of the Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and Management course offered by the Faculty of Education at the University of Malta, Ms Tania Gauci Fenech and Mr Charles Micallef, will share their postgraduate research studies. Entitled "Lesson Study: Research, Reflection, Impact", the seminar will explore how Lesson Study can strengthen reflective practice, enhance classroom teaching, and contribute to evidence-informed school improvement.

The event will highlight the practical applications of Lesson Study, demonstrating how systematic reflection on teaching can generate meaningful impact on student learning and teacher professional development. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about research on Lesson Study with examples of Lesson Study practices within local schools, discuss its relevance to contemporary educational challenges, and reflect on its potential within their own contexts.

The seminar is expected to be of interest to teachers, school leaders, teacher educators, researchers, and all those committed to improving educational practice through collaborative inquiry and reflective engagement.

This seminar is organised by Dr James Calleja, the UNESCO Chair in Teacher Professional Development using Lesson Study, and , a deputy head of school, in collaboration with Prof. Carmel Borg, coordinator of the MRER project and editor of the MRER journal.
