The main objective of ESTELLE is to put forward new methods, models, and research tools to reduce barriers for the deployment of BESS and P2X technologies in Malta. ESTELLE shall perform detailed design, modelling and analysis on utility scale and behind-the-meter BESS and P2X technologies, to mitigate the impact of RES intermittency whilst possibly providing additional benefits to consumers that shall be used to:
- develop new knowledge and skills on utility scale and behind-the-meter battery energy storage and power-to-x technologies; and
- propose novel technical solutions, processes or services for the effective integration of these technologies.
A wide range of storage based ancillary services shall be investigated for increased RES penetrations. In addition, a lab-based BESS prototype shall also be developed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed novel technical solutions, processes or services.
