The workshop will address power and control dynamics in abusive relationships, which are central to victimisation. It will examine daily micro-aggressions, often masked as stereotypically 'normal' behaviour, and the local legal framework designed to address perpetrators. Attention will also be given to the different personality types of perpetrators, their communication styles, and how these contribute to identifying potential abusers.
We will explore the psychological phases of victimisation, including how it can lead to mental health challenges such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The workshop will also address why victims often struggle to adopt healthier, more assertive behaviours. The workshop will highlight how interventions from psychology, psychotherapy, and social work can address these issues.

This advanced training workshop provides a supportive and interactive space for participants to engage in in-depth discussions of real cases or personal challenges raised within the group. The session begins with a round of introductions to establish rapport, followed by the setting of clear ground rules, including confidentiality, respectful turn-taking, and appropriate group behaviour.
Participants will then be invited to share an issue or challenge from their professional or personal experience. The facilitator will guide each discussion, encouraging group interaction and collective reflection. This approach promotes peer learning, empathy, and practical problem-solving, while reinforcing a safe and confidential environment.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
Apply agreed ground rules to ensure respectful, confidential, and constructive group interactions;
Share and articulate personal or professional challenges in a supportive environment;
Engage in peer-to-peer discussion and reflection to explore different perspectives;
