Ms Eleanor Bezzina, Assistant Registrar at the University’s Office of the Registrar, who is also a professional indoor target shooter, has been officially selected, together with physical therapist Mr Andrew Chetcuti, to bear the Maltese flag at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Opening Ceremony.
This news comes just days after it was announced that Ms Bezzina was the first Maltese athlete participating at the upcoming international sports event, scheduled to take place in the Japanese capital, Tokyo, between 23 July and 8 August 2021. She will be competing in the 10m Air Pistol and 25m Pistol competitions.
This is not the first time Ms Bezzina is representing the country doing what she loves, as she also represented Malta at Rio 2016.
In 2018, Ms Bezzina was voted in as Sportswoman of the Year during the Annual Sportivi Nazzjonali Contest.
Speaking to Newspoint, Ms Bezzina said “I am already pleased to be part of Team Malta for Olympics Tokyo 2020 and to be selected as one of the flag bearers is surely a great honour”.
She also vouched to commit herself to always keeping the Olympic Movement motto, ‘Faster, Higher and Stronger’ in mind.
She will soon be leaving for Tokyo together with five other Maltese athletes, who will be competing across several disciplines.
