As the Faculty of Economics, Management & Accountancy gears up for another academic year, it has announced a number of staff movements and new appointments with the aim of having a more fruitful and successful time.
Dr Emanuel Said is going to be filling in the shoes of outgoing Dean, Professor Frank Bezzina, who as of July, has become the University鈥檚 Pro-Rector for International Development & Quality Assurance.
"With these changes, the Faculty embarks on a series of initiatives that will revitalize the current undergraduate and post-graduate programmes to augment their relevance to an increasingly dynamic business environment. Sustainability, effectiveness, international growth and excellence are the dimensions that these initiatives will seek to address consistently", said Dr Emanuel Said.
Meanwhile, Professor Simon Grima and Professor Philip von Brockdorff have been appointed as Deputy Deans.
There are four new Heads of Department this year, with Professor Vincent Cassar having been appointed Head of the Department of Management, Dr Carl Camilleri having been appointed Head of the Department of Economics, and Dr Mario Thomas Vassallo appointed as Head of the Department of Public Policy. Dr Lauren Ellul has been appointed Head of the Department of Accountancy, replacing Professor Peter J. Baldacchino, who has been promoted to Professor.
Dr Charmaine Portelli has been elected as Department representative on the Faculty Board (Economics), whilst Dr Daniel Gravino is now on the Faculty Research Ethics Committee for the Department of Economics.
Two members of staff have resigned to take on new positions outside UM; Dr Abdalla Kablan and Dr Dominic Cortis.
The Faculty also wishes to thank outgoing heads, Prof. Philip von Brockdorff, Prof. Frank Bezzina and Dr Anne Marie Thake for their valid contributions throughout the years, and is grateful for the valuable effort of the administration team who did a sterling job in facilitating these processes.
