A group of students currently following the Master of Science course in Applied Oceanography recently participated in an intensive week of encounters with different marine and maritime stakeholders in Naples, as part of their studies.
The offshore visit was in fact organised within the ambit of a Course Study-Unity (GSC5502 – Hands-on oceanography) which, as the title of the same Study-Unit indicates, aims to immerse students within the practice of oceanography.
The seats on the plane were randomly allocated during check-in. But as soon as the plane touched down, all students grouped and worked as one team for the entire duration of the trip. The aim was to meet, learn, and collaborate with different researchers from the University of Parthenope in Naples.
The Parthenope campus is in the centre of the city. Visits were organised to the Department of Science and Technology, the Department of Business and Quantitative Studies, MAR.TE logistics, and the Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn. The latter was founded in 1872 and is among the most influential research Institutions in the field of marine biology and ecology.
The philosophy is to carry out research through an integrated and interdisciplinary approach.
Maltese students were trained for commitments that they might be tasked with at professional level. The activities were organised between the 9th and 13th of January 2022 by Prof. Enrico Zambianchi, Prof. Yuri Cotroneo, Prof. Marcello Risitano, Prof. Gabriele Sampagnaro, Prof. Michele Simoni and Prof. Daniele Previtali from the University of Parthenope and Prof. Ferdinando Boero from Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn.
Participants from the Master course in Applied Oceanography were accompanied by and from the within the . The Course is offered by the Oceanography Malta Research Group within the same Department and is coordinated by .
