The Best Presentation Awards for students completing their degrees in pharmacy and in pharmaceutical technology were presented during the Department of Pharmacy Annual Symposium, which was held between 6 and 10 March 2023.
The Best Presentation Award for the Pharmaceutical Technology students is supported by Aurobindo Pharma. Final year students studying for the Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Pharmaceutical Technology presented their projects. The recipient of the 2023 award was Jean-Pierre Galea for his research project entitled ‘Artificial Intelligence in Cardiology’. Mr Galea carried explored the application of artificial intelligence in medical devices used in the management of cardiovascular diseases, focusing on opportunities, benefits, and challenges.
The Best Presentation award for the Master of Pharmacy students is supported by Combino-Pharm. Raquel Formosa received the award for her presentation of her dissertation entitled ‘Individualised Antiplatelet Therapy Prescribing After Percutaneous Coronary Intervention’. The research focuses on the contribution of the pharmacist in assessing bleeding risk and in contributing to the optimisation of antithrombotic therapy in patients undergoing coronary stent implantation.
The studies were adjudicated by independent panels. The research was carried out under the supervision of Dr Francesca Wirth, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Pharmacy of the University of Malta, in collaboration with the Department of Cardiology at Mater Dei Hospital.
