Imagine starting a company and in a couple of months you were given €135,000 to invest in your idea. That is exactly what happened to one of our alumni Chris Mercieca and current M.A student Gorg Vella.
Chris and Gorg made their debut on the first episode of Shark Tank Malta’s second season which aired on TVM on 5 March 2023, pitching their start-up company Happy Pot. Unlike the standard flimsy pots that the majority of garden centres sell, Happy Pot is focused on creating sustainable alternative pots that are biodegradable and built to last, through the use of 3D printing. And to really prove their passion towards sustainable development, they are planting one tree for each pot sold.
The duo are aware about the concerns pertaining to their company only selling a limited variety of goods. According to them this is only their first product and plan to use this as a means to come up with more related items once they perfect their current production of pots, keeping the idea of sustainable development behind each product.
Even an idea as small as selling pots can be the path towards what is hopefully a success story for these two young entrepreneurs.
On behalf of the University of Malta we wish them the best of luck in finding success for their start-up, Happy Pot.
