Graduating from university is a momentous occasion for anyone. However, it is even more special when a mother and daughter graduate together like what happened with Louise Fiott (mother) and Rakele Fiott (daughter) who shared the experience of completing their studies together with Newspoint.
Rakele Fiott, had just graduated with a first-class B.A. Hons in History in 2019 when she decided to embark on a new academic journey to pursue her M.A. in History. Her research focused on the history of children and the daily life of the Maltese people in the 1700s. At around the same time, Louise Fiott decided to go back to university after 25 years, enrolling in the M.A. in Mediterranean Studies. Despite their different courses, their shared specialisation in eighteenth-century Maltese history allowed them to work together.
Their journey was not an easy one. There were moments of stress and tears, but also moments of laughter and excitement. They would spend hours at the archives, deciphering barely legible handwriting on documents and bouncing ideas off each other over a cup of coffee and pistachio croissants.
Despite the challenges, having each other as study buddies made the experience much more enjoyable and fulfilling. Their shared experience not only strengthened their relationship but also provided a unique opportunity for them to bond over their love for history.
This made graduating together a moment they will never forget. It was an emotional rollercoaster, but also one of the most enjoyable and fulfilling experiences they had so far. When Newspoint asked about the future, the two answered that they plan to further their studies and if given the opportunity to do it together again, they would do it in a heartbeat.
In conclusion, this story should serve as an inspiration to anyone who thinks it's too late to pursue their academic dreams. It's a reminder that it's never too late to learn, and that the journey is more enjoyable when shared with a loved one.
On behalf of everyone at Newspoint, we would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Rakele and Louise the very best for the future!
