After having been crowned as Malta's national women's rugby champions last April, the University of Malta Wolves RFC's Women's Team were invited to present their trophy to University of Malta Rector, Prof. Alfred J. Vella.
Club President, Albert Galea, together with Women's Team captain, Raisa Farrugia and players Mari Clemensen and Annah Mallia, together with the Director of the University's Institute for Physical Education & Sport, Prof. Andrew Decelis, paid a visit to Rector's Office to show the first piece of silverware their club won since its inception.
The club first entered the local competition in 2019, and were the first women’s team to represent the University of Malta in any national league.
In April 2024, after a close-fought season spread across 10 weekends (from October 2023 until April 2024), the women’s team of the UM Wolves RFC were crowned as Malta’s national rugby champions.
They beat the Stompers 39-7 with the league title already mathematically secure and after they went unbeaten in the second half of the season.
Players Raisa Farrugia, Mari Clemensen and Amber Dalli scored two tries each, while Tessabelle Sultana Evans scored one herself. Mari and Rebekka Bartolo added a conversion each to the scoreline.
