To the random passer-by, the rooms within the Department of Music Studies might sometimes sound like a cacophony of instruments and voices, singing and playing every imaginable genre, form, and style of music.
But as can be seen in this latest promotional video—which gives a great insight into the countless rehearsals and hours of preparation needed for a performance, an exam or any kind of entertainment really—there is method to the madness, there is a rhythm to the notes.
Produced in collaboration with the Marketing, Communications & Alumni Office, the video perfectly captures the essence of the musical brilliance and creativity of the third-year undergraduate students’ recitals.
Featured in the video are:
- Louise Varming Rothe, who has been closely engaged with the historic Strait Street Jazz scene
- Steve Buttigieg, a classical pianist who is being tutored by Mro Michael Laus, and who is very active in Gozo’s musical scene,
- Mariette Borg, a classical soprano being tutored by Claire Massa, whose performances bring together works with heightened drama and often nocturnal themes; and
- Michela Schembri, a clarinet player tutored by Godfrey Mifsud, and whose performances combine works from the classical to the moderately modern.
The Bachelor of Music (Hons) integrates the development of practical skills with theoretical and historical musical knowledge, while giving students the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in every aspect of music.
Online applications are open for the October 2024 intake.
