Team Malta for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris 2024 has been chosen – and the names of the athletes representing Malta announced.
Congratulations to UM student Beppe Grillo, and UM alumni Katryna Esposito and Gianluca Chetcuti for being among the chosen ones.
Beppe is a 21 year-old-athlete who has been involved in athletics since he was 14, and trained at semi-pro level for the past three years. He holds the titles of current 100m and 200m National Champion.
Katryna began practicing Judo in 2019 and has excelled, even winning gold at the European Games of Small States of Europe and the Commonwealth Championships that were held in Malta. She had also gotten a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Last year, she suffered an injury and had to be operated upon, but has since recovered and named Maltese Sportswoman of the Year in 2022.
Gianluca is one of Malta’s finest trap shooters. He has set and broken a number of records, also becoming the first Maltese shooter to reach a final in an ISSF Trap World event. He will be one of the two athletes carrying the Maltese flag at the Opening Ceremony on the River Seine.
