Second-year Artificial Intelligence students at the University of Malta recently put their skills to the test in a high-energy robotics competition held at the ICT Foyer, Level 1. As part of the Robotics study-unit offered by the , ten student teams designed and programmed autonomous robots to navigate a maze against the clock.
With just 10 minutes to complete the maze, the challenge tested not only technical ability but also creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork. Students also explained their design choices and coding strategies to evaluators.
Led by , with support from RSOs and , the competition brought theory to life, transforming classroom knowledge into working systems.
, Head of Department, and , Dean of the , were also in attendance, showing strong support for hands-on, innovative learning. The Australian High Commissioner, H.E. Matt Skelly, who happened to be visiting the Faculty of ICT at the time, made an impromptu visit to the event, expressing genuine interest in the students’ work and engagement.
Team Heth emerged as winners with a fast and reliable performance, but all teams were praised for their efforts and ingenuity.
The event concluded with the presentation of the Robotics Challenge cup.
