This was the 25th anniversary of the conference, which started on the island of Samos in the Aegean in 2000, founded by Professor Mallia’s Greek co-organiser, Mrs Nancy Pyrini.
Over the years, the conference was co-organised by a number of universities:

- the University of the Fraser Valley, Canada; and
- Southampton Solent University, UK.

He also presented a paper on the use of comics in educational practice, inspired by the international MIRACLE project (Comics and Illustrations Augmented to tackle Climate Change in primary Education), in which the Department of Media and Communications is a partner.
Throughout its 25 years, the role of ICICTE has been to seek to address the many challenges and new directions presented by technological innovations in educational settings. As a premier gathering, ICICTE unites a diverse international community of scholars and practitioners in a stimulating forum. Held on different Greek islands, participants from different worldwide academic institutions have, over the years, interacted intellectually and socially on Samos, Rhodes, Crete, Kos, Corfu and Lesvos.
Next year the conference, also co-organised by Professor Mallia, will be held again on Rhodes.
