Full-Time Master鈥檚 Student for the Project 'SAtellite TraIning and NETworking (SATINET)'

- Applications are invited for a full-time Master鈥檚 student to work on the SAtellite TraIning and NETworking (SATINET) project. The scholarship is partly funded by the MCST-CNES Space Bilateral Fund 2019. The project is coordinated by the Faculty of ICT under the supervision of Dr Ing. Reuben Farrugia.
- Applicants must be in possession of an Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or in other areas deemed comparable. Applicants should be eligible to be admitted to the Master of Science in Communications and Computer Engineering programme of this University in terms of the applicable bye-laws. A mathematical background and familiarity with signal/image processing, computer vision and machine learning and previous experience with Python programming is preferred.
- This scholarship covers a period of one year and shall provide a stipend of EUR 800 per month for the first 6 months in Malta and EUR 900 for the 6 months stay in Toulouse.
- The selected candidate is expected to enrol in the University of Malta鈥檚 Masters by Research programme, spend 6 months at CNES in Toulouse, France and conduct research in the use of machine learning and AI techniques to process data from Sentinel-2 satellites, which provide optical imagery at 10 meter resolution, for crop and vegetation classification (agricultural land cover mapping). The scholarship is for a maximum period of one year, which will be subject to the eligibility of the candidate to meet the entry requirements set out by the University of Malta and the conditions for enrolling in the Master of Science in Communications and Computer Engineering programme.
International applicants are required to present an internationally recognised English Language proficiency Certificate at the required level. Further details are available online. International applicants are also advised to familiarise themselves with information available on the website of the International Office, particularly to the sections concerning visas and e-residence permit conditions and requirements. International candidates will need to provide assurance that they have the funds available to cover their stay in Malta. The stipend awarded for this scholarship is to be considered as a form of allowance and will not cover all the costs attached to studying and living in Malta or in Toulouse. - Candidates should submit their letter of application, a copy of their curriculum vitae, copies of their certificates and contact details (including email address) of two referees. International candidates are required to present certified translations of their qualifications into English.
